Ekenäs Innovation Harbour extends the historic centre of Ekenäs onto its former northern harbour, creating a new waterfront district for hospitality, learning and enterprise built on the town’s existing strengths. Our aim is for Ekenäs to become the leading town centre of Western Uusimaa.
About
Ekenäs Innovation Harbour Oy is an independent Finnish property development company, founded in 2020. Under a planning reservation with the City of Raseborg, we are planning a mixed-use waterfront district in Norra Hamnen, at the heart of Ekenäs.
Why Ekenäs
Ekenäs combines what growing companies, students and visitors look for: a historic seaside town with city rights dating from 1546, direct rail connections to Helsinki and beyond, international data connectivity and the Ekenäs Archipelago National Park on its doorstep. Set between the growth centres of Helsinki and Turku, with easy access to Tallinn and Stockholm, Ekenäs offers the charm of a small sea-side town with access to the wider region.
Our Story
2019 — One property, a bigger picture. Commissioned to study the development potential of a single property in central Ekenäs, we soon saw that the opportunity reached beyond the site. The former Norra Hamnen harbour, the town’s connections and its centuries of history pointed to something larger.
2020 — A shared starting point. Following discussions with city officials, we presented a development concept to the City of Raseborg. Ekenäs Innovation Harbour Oy was founded, and the City granted a planning reservation for Norra Hamnen.
Since then — From concept to programme. The concept has been refined into a clear programme: hospitality, events and a business centre around the historic Crown Granary, a higher education campus, a new travel centre and shared digital infrastructure.
Today — Building the partnership. We are expanding our partner network and working with the City of Raseborg to bring Ekenäs Innovation Harbour to life.
Our Approach
Reuse before replacement. The most sustainable building is often the one already standing, which is why the restored Crown Granary is the centrepiece of the new hotel.
Build with the town. Acknowledging the value of local expertise, we develop in step with the City of Raseborg’s goals, and for the residents and local businesses as much as for visitors.
Partners over promises. No developer knows everything. We bring in partners and outside expertise early, and build the network before we build.
